CAROLL COUNTY, MARYLAND – Thomas Stewart of Westminster added a Lucky scratch-off to the weekly grocery list and came home $50,000 richer.

Thomas Stewart and his wife do their shopping every Saturday morning, with scratch-offs a consistent item on their list. A $5 Lucky instant ticket was among several scratch-offs they bought last weekend at College Square Liquors, and the game was true to its name for the Westminster couple. They won a $50,000 top prize!

“We’ve been playing these things for a long, long time,” said Thomas, who is an HVAC specialist. “Winning enough to get a few more tickets has been our goal and what we’ve come to expect.” Referring to the big win, Thomas said, “This is not supposed to happen!”

The Carroll County pair’s $50,000 top prize is the second one the Lucky ticket has produced. Ten more are awaiting discovery. The game are also has 10 $5,000 second-tier prize-winning scratch-offs in circulation. Lucky tickets went on sale in September.

Thomas told Lottery officials that he and his wife will add their winnings to their family savings and use some of the prize for future investments. Also benefiting from the lucky sale are the owners of College Square Liquors at 444 WMC Drive in Westminster. The Lottery retailer will receive a $500 bonus for selling a top-prize winning scratch-off in the Lucky game.
