Baltimore Woman in Tears After Winning $100,000 on scratch-off

Kristen Harrison-Oneal

BALTIMORE, MARYLAND – Yesterday was a blur, a Baltimore woman told Lottery officials on Wednesday. She could easily relate the details of her busy morning, but soon after meeting a friend for lunch, things get hazy. Winning $100,000 will do that to a person.

“I play scratch tickets pretty often,” the caregiver explained, “so when we were leaving the deli, I bought a few.” One of those instant tickets – the $5 Ravens X5 game – would soon interrupt the flow of her up-to-then predictable day. “I scratched it later during a break at work, and… and… and…”  As you can tell, this is where her recollections fail her.

According to our winner’s friend, who was the first to hear the great news, the phone call she received was unusual. “She told me that she thought that she might have won the Lottery, at least that’s what it sounded like through the sobbing.” The tears are one of the few things the winner does remember.

“I’ve pictured how I’d react if I won big on a ticket, maybe dancing and yelling, but I never thought I’d start crying.”

Despite having her Tuesday win confirmed by her friend, via an image of the scratch-off sent by text, and by a Lottery retailer, the winner didn’t really believe her luck until she visited the Lottery’s Customer Resource Center. The 35-year-old plans to use her Ravens X5 winnings to aid her search for a new home for her growing family.

This is the third $100,000 top prize claimed in the game and four are awaiting discovery. The Lottery’s 2021 edition of its Ravens scratch-offs hit retail locations on Aug. 23. Players can try to win instant prizes on the $2 Ravens X2 and $5 Ravens X5 games and enter a second-chance promotion to win cash prizes and Ravens experiences. Enter non-winning tickets into your My Lottery Rewards account and pick the prize category you want to try to win. Prizes include seats for 20 years, $10,000 cash, a Pass for Cash on-field experience and more. Get details HERE. Upcoming entry deadlines are Nov. 15, Dec. 13 and Jan. 11.

Georgetown Deli & Convenience at 2829 Georgetown Road in Baltimore’s Morrell Park sold the $100,000 life-changing instant ticket. The owners will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling a $100,000 top-prize winning scratch-off.
