Atlanta, GA (October 29, 2021) – The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting at the request of the Atlanta Police Department.

The preliminary information indicates that on Thursday, October 28, 2021, at around 9:30 p.m., officers were near Peek Rd and Magna Carta Dr in Atlanta when they attempted a felony stop on a person driving a stolen vehicle from a previous carjacking incident.

As an officer got out of the patrol vehicle, the suspect, who is unidentified at this time, reversed his vehicle, pinning the officer.  The suspect put the car in drive, and rammed the patrol vehicle while fleeing the scene. During the incident, a second officer fired shots at the suspect.  The suspect drove away from the scene and is not in custody.

An Atlanta Police Officer sustained minor injuries, was treated at the hospital and released. The stolen vehicle has been recovered.

The GBI will continue an independent investigation. Once the investigation is complete, it will be provided to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
