Police continue investigation of crash after driver died days later

MOUNT OLIVE, NJ – Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, Chief of Detectives Christoph Kimker, and Mount Olive Police Chief Stephen Beecher announce and confirm that the driver involved in a multi-vehicle crash that occurred in Mount Olive on October 23, 2021 has succumbed to his injuries and died.

At approximately 1:30 p.m. on October 23, 2021, members of the Mount Olive Police Department were dispatched to the area of Route 46 and Joy Drive on a report of a motor vehicle crash. Further investigation has revealed that the driver of a 2015 Hyundai Sonata lost control of the vehicle while driving on Route 46 East, causing a head-on collision with a BMW travelling in the westbound lanes. A Subaru that was travelling eastbound was also involved in the collision.

The driver and four passengers of the Sonata were transported to Morristown Medical Center for medical treatment. The driver succumbed to his injuries on November 1, 2021. The driver and passenger of the BMW were also transported to Morristown Medical Center for medical treatment. There were no injuries reported to the occupants of the Subaru.


The incident was investigated by the Mount Olive Police Department and the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, with the assistance of the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit. No criminal charges are expected at this time and the identities of the individuals involved will not be released.
