Perona sentenced to three years in prison for sexual conduct with child

MAYS LANDING— A Mullica Township man was sentenced to New Jersey state prison after pleading guilty to Endangering the Welfare of a Child by Sexual Conduct, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Cary Shill announced.

Anthony J. Perona, 68, was sentenced on Thursday, Nov. 18, 2021, to 3 years New Jersey State prison before Honorable Bernard Delury, Jr. P.J. Cr.

Perona pleaded guilty to Endangering the Welfare of a Child by Sexual Conduct on August 2, 2021. Perona’s guilty plea came shortly after a jury trial on several related charges and which resulted in a hung jury.

Pursuant to Perona’s plea he acknowledged engaging in sexual conduct with a juvenile female known to him which would tend to impair or debauch her morals. The conviction also subjects the defendant to Parole Supervision for Life, Sex Offender registration pursuant to Megan’s Law and also be subject to a Sex Offender Restraining Order, prohibiting any form of contact with the juvenile victim.
