Police investigating fatal crash that killed 50-year-old pedestrian

Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating the November 19 fatal collision that occurred at the intersection of Georgia Ave. and Mason St.  

At approximately 8:22 a.m., 4th District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the location for the report of a traffic collision that just occurred.   

The investigation has revealed that the operator of a blue 2006 Toyota Camry was traveling southbound on Georgia Ave., approaching Mason St. The pedestrian was crossing Georgia Ave. at Mason St. in a marked crosswalk from east to west.  


The operator of the Toyota was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.  

The pedestrian was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries and later succumbed to her injuries. The decedent was identified as a 50-year-old female from Silver Spring.  

The name of the deceased will be released following proper notification of family. This is an active and ongoing investigation.
