Girlfriend charged after shooting boyfriend in Atlantic City

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – The Atlantic City Police Department announces the arrest of a woman and man following an investigation into a shooting that wounded the man.

On November 18, 2021 at 6:35 AM, patrol officers responded to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division, after Leonard Oglesby III entered the emergency department suffering from a gunshot wound. Upon questioning, Oglesby was evasive as to how the shooting occurred.

At 6:41 AM, patrol officers responded to a residence in the 1400 of Caspian Avenue in reference to an apartment door being left open, a window inside shattered, and blood outside the door. Arriving officers also located blood inside the residence and no one home. It was determined that Oglesby was shot in the residence.


An investigation by detectives of the Violent Crimes Unit identified Oglesby’s girlfriend, Shawnique Hudson, as the suspect involved in shooting him. A warrant was issued for the arrest of Hudson. A warrant was also issued for the arrest of Oglesby for criminal mischief related to the breaking of the window.

On November 19 at 6:21 PM, Officers Ivaylo Ivanov and Consuelo Maldonado located Hudson’s vehicle in the first block of south Texas Avenue. Hudson was located inside and taken into custody without incident. Hudson was found in possession of five grams of cocaine and a small amount of heroin. While officers were still on scene, Oglesby walked up to the vehicle and was taken in custody for his warrant. Oglesby was found in possession of 11 grams of powder cocaine, eight grams of crack cocaine, nine grams of heroin, 302 bags of heroin, and multiple prescription medication pills.

ARRESTED: Shawnique Hudson, 33, of Atlantic City.

CHARGES: Aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of CDS (two counts).

ARRESTED: Leonard Oglesby III, 32, of Atlantic City.

CHARGES: Criminal mischief, possession of CDS (five counts), and possession of CDS with intent to distribute (five counts).

Hudson and Oglesby were remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility. Charges are mere accusations, and the accused are considered innocent until proven guilty.
