Man arrested for threatening to kill staff at Funky Murphy’s after last call

WORCESTER, MA – On November 28th 2021 at about 1:25 AM, Worcester Police officers were dispatched to the area of Funky Murphy’s on 305 Shrewsbury St for a report of a person with a gun. Upon arrival, officers spoke with witnesses, who said that the bar was closing for the night when two males were refused entry. One male began arguing aggressively with staff and refusing to leave. He was escorted out, and he made threats to shoot staff while flashing what appeared to be a small black handgun.

Officers were given a description of the male, identified as Daniel Mercado, twenty-three-years-old of Marlborough, and his vehicle. A Worcester Police officer spotted the vehicle on Shrewsbury St and stopped it. Mr. Mercado was removed from the vehicle, and a small black firearm fell out of his pants while he was being searched.

Mr. Mercado is charged with two counts of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, two counts of threatening to commit a crime (Murder), and improper storage of a firearm. He will be arraigned in court.
