Clayton County police officer shot and killed responding to double murder, shooting of child

REX, GA – Clayton County Field Training Officer Henry Laxson was shot and killed last night while on duty, responding to a call for service. Officer Laxson responded to a 911 call for help in the 3600 block of Jervis Court in Rex, GA 30273 and immediately came under fire from an unknown location. A total of four persons are deceased in this incident. A second Clayton County Police Officer Alex Chandler was shot in the hand. The suspect was killed during the exchange of gunfire with law enforcement. The GBI will be conducting an independent investigation. Officers later determined that the man had just shot and killed two women and also shot a 12-year-old boy in the face just prior to officers arriving. The juvenile victim is in critical, but stable condition. The Clayton County Police are investigating the triple shooting. At this time, we are not releasing the names of the victims due to the ongoing investigation and the next-of-kin, not having been notified, as of yet.
