PANAMA CITY, FL – A suspect in a violent attack on a female was found deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after a long standoff Monday night.

Officers with the Panama City Police Department responded to an address in the 1700 block of Billings Avenue in St. Andrews after receiving a 9-1-1 call. The female victim had been stabbed multiple times by her ex-husband Steven Evans, W/M, 63, who had fled the scene in a white Toyota Tundra truck.

The victim received aid on scene, was transported for treatment and is currently listed in stable condition in a local hospital.

Officers and detectives with PCPD learned that Evans’ truck was located as his residence in the 1600 block of Cincinnati Avenue. Officers tried to get Evans to exit his home through communication using a PA system.

After receiving no response, the Panama City Police Department’s and the Bay County Sheriff’s Office SWAT teams responded along with the PCPD’s Crisis Negotiations Team. After several hours, a search warrant was obtained and using the BCSO’s Bearcat Armored Vehicle, entry was made into the residence.

Evans was located inside, deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Panama City Police Department would like to thank the Bay County Sheriff’s Office for their prompt response and use of their armored vehicle. The joint tactical operation of SWAT officers, under the direction of the Panama City Police Department, was used due to the violent nature of the crime.
