Police in Clayton County shoot and kill gunman

CLAYTON CO., GA – On December 5, 2021 at 11:58 a.m., Clayton County Police Department responded to the 6900 Block of Maddox Road, Morrow, GA in reference to a disturbance between neighbors. Upon arrival, one of the two first responding officers made contact with a Hispanic male who was yelling at them from across the street. At that time, the male subject was not armed. The male subject then retreated back into the home and retrieved a firearm.

The male subject exited the home and shot a round. The officers on scene perceived the male suspect shot at them. That information was disseminated by the two officers via the radio. Additional officers responded to the scene. Subsequently, the officers began to engage the suspect verbally.

While officers were speaking with the suspect, the suspect turned toward officers while holding the firearm. The suspect was shot, and he later succumbed to his injuries at an area hospital.

The GBI is handling the officer-involved shooting investigation. An additional investigation is being handle by the Clayton County Police Department. The next-of-kin hasn’t been notified and the investigation is still on-going.
