Home Depot shoplifter caught with sawed-off shotgun, knife, and meth

WESTAMPTON, NJ – On December 5, 2021, at 1702 hours, Westampton Township Police were dispatched to Home Depot located at 2703 Burlington Mt. Holly Road for a shoplifting in progress. While patrol units were responding to Home Depot, Central dispatch advised patrols that the suspect (Payne) brandished a knife towards the loss prevention officer and ran out the store.

Upon arrival, Patrol units were flagged down by loss prevention. He then pointed in the direction to where the suspect fled in the parking lot of Home Depot. Patrol units then responded to the area and made contact with the suspect identified as Mark C. Payne. Officers were able to De-escalate the situation and took Mr. Payne into custody without further incident. The following property was recovered off the defendant:

  • Ithaca 12 gauge sawed off shotgun (fully loaded)
  • Twenty-nine Shot guns rounds
  • Twenty-three .22 caliber hollow nose bullets
  • Two smoking pipes containing suspected methamphetamine
  • Five pocket knifes
  • Burglar tools
  • Tactical bullet proof vest carrier (worn by the suspect duringthe commission of the offense)
  • Three hypodermic syringes
  • Two glassine bags containing suspected methamphetamine

Mr. Payne was arrested, processed and lodged at the Burlington County Jail pending a court appearance.
