New City teen pleads guilty to car crash that killed one teen, seriously injured another

NEW CITY, NY – Rockland County District Attorney Tom Walsh announced the guilty plea of a New City teen stemming from a fatal car accident that occurred on May 6, 2021 in New City, NY. Alan Mendoza, of New City, N.Y. pleaded guilty on December 7, 2021 before the Honorable Kevin F. Russo of the Rockland County Court to aggravated vehicular homicide. On the evening of May 6, 2021 on Congers Road, Mendoza struck two other vehicles after crossing over a double yellow line. He then crashed his vehicle into a tree on Congers Road.

At the time of the crash, he was intoxicated. As a result of the crash, his passenger, a 16-year-old male, died from injuries. Another one of his passengers, a 17 year old female, sustained a serious physical injury. Mendoza is expected to be sentenced to 1 1/3 to 4 years’ state prison on May 26, 2022.

The incident was investigated by the Clarkstown Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Executive Assistant District Attorney Mike Dugandzic and Supervising Assistant District Attorney Stefanie Schera. The matter is scheduled for sentencing on May 26, 2022. “This plea of guilt by Mr. Mendoza today will hopefully allow the family of the young male victim a sense of closure. Our entire community mourns the senseless loss of a Rockland teenager’s life. My office and the Clarkstown Police Department, worked tirelessly to ensure justice was served”, said Rockland County District Attorney Tom Walsh.
