Haledon man charged with child abuse, neglect of 15-year-old

HALEDON, NJ – Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes announces the arrest of Yousef Abdo, 40 years old, from Haledon, New Jersey. Mr. Abdo was arrested on December 8, 2021, after an investigation conducted by the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit.

Mr. Abdo is charged with second-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child and fourth degree Child Abuse and Neglect. On December 7, 2021 the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office received information that a fifteen year-old child had reported that Mr. Abdo had committed numerous acts of physical and psychological abuse against the child at a residence in Haledon.

Prosecutor’s Office detectives interviewed the child and numerous witnesses resulting in Mr. Abdo’s arrest. The sentencing exposure on second degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child is five to ten years in New Jersey State Prison and on fourth degree Child Abuse and Neglect it is up to eighteen months in New Jersey State Prison. On December 8, 2021 Mr. Abdo appeared in Central Judicial Processing and was released on pretrial monitoring with conditions pending disposition of the case. A criminal complaint is merely an accusation.

Despite this accusation, defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
