FREEHOLD, NJ – A report in the Asbury Park Press says that the Monmouth County Jail is on lockdown after a COVID-19 outbreak earlier this week.

According to the report, this is the third outbreak at the county-operated jail since the onset of the pandemic, affecting 30 people, including 21 inmates and 9 corrections officers. The Department of Health has been investigating the outbreak since Tuesday, but so far, government agencies have not issued any public notices or warnings about the outbreak.

Jail and union officials said the county has not given them many details about the outbreak, the Press reported.
