Man accidentally shot after argument over garbage can

RED BANK, AL – On December 9th, 2021 at approx. 10:30 am the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a person with a gunshot injury to the right shoulder in the 1400 block of County Road 314 of Red Bank community of Lawrence County. Sheriff Max Sanders states that Deputies arrived at the scene and discovered Shane Gholston age 36 of County Road 314 was suffering from that gunshot injury.

Mr. Gholston was taken to Huntsville Hospital via a medical helicopter and his condition is unknown at the time of this release. Mr. Clendon Jones age 67 of County Road 314 was located next door to his residence. Mr. Jones was taken to the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office for questioning and released. At this time, it is our understanding that Jones and Gholston got into an argument over a garbage can.

Witnesses said the gun went off accidentally while both parties were fighting to gain control over the gun. The incident happened at Mr. Jones’s residence on County Road 314. Mr. Gholston and Mr. Jones are neighbors. Sheriff Sanders states that the findings in the case will be turned over to the District Attorney’s Office.
