Sault Ste Marie, MICH – Early Christmas morning, Chippewa Co Sheriff’s Office and Fire units were dispatched to a residence on Ridge rd. in Sault Ste Marie.

First responders found that an 82-year-old female woke up to the smell of smoke.

“She did not hear the smoke detectors but she woke up just in time,” the department said in a release. ” The lady was able to yell for help and a passerby stopped and called 911.”

The victim was treated and released for smoke inhalation. The house was a total loss with nothing but the shell remaining.

“While talking to the family they are very grateful and realize this is a true Christmas Miracle. It all depends on your perspective. The house is gone, but she is still here,” the department said.

Sault Fire, Sault EMS, Sugar Island Fire, Soo Twp Fire, Sault Tribe PD, Central Dispatch and MSP all assisted.
