Search continues for diver reported missing on Christmas Eve

MADERA, CA – At 6:21pm on December 24, 2021, the Madera County Sheriff’s Communications Center received a report of an overdue party who had gone on a solo dive at Millerton Lake in the Meadow Campground area earlier in the afternoon.

Search and rescue personnel responded to the area and conducted a foot search of the shore. Aircraft with thermal technology was deployed for a search of the water surface and land. Initial search efforts did not locate the missing diver.

Additional search and rescue teams were deployed at first light this morning, December 25, 2021. MCSO Boat Patrol Unit and Dive Team members are on scene conducting a thorough surface search of the lake using advanced sonar technology, and underwater search techniques by scuba divers.
