Silverton EMS unable to save girl, 9 after crash into tree police say

TOMS RIVER, NJ – On Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at approximately 9:16 AM police were dispatched to the intersection of Whitty Road and North Bay Avenue for a serious motor vehicle accident. The initial investigation revealed Baila Gross, 38 of Lakewood, was traveling east on Whitty Road when she failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of N. Bay Avenue. Ms. Gross continued through the intersection and collided head-on into a tree.

Toms River CSOs and Silverton EMS responded to the scene and immediately rendered aid to occupants. They began CPR on one of the passengers, a minor, and continued during transport to Community Medical Center where she was subsequently pronounced deceased.

There was no indication of driver impairment, and all four occupants were restrained at the time of the collision. The accident remains under investigation by Toms River Traffic Safety Officer Ryan Fitzgerald and Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office. Summons pending at this time.
