NYC H&M store closes after employee pictures of bugs on hoodies goes viral

A post on social media has gone viral and led to the closing of the H&M store located in the Oculus at the World Trade Center. An employee shared the report on social media after she felt store officials didn’t take her notification seriously enough. The store just roped off a section of racks instead of closing the store.

So she did what any employee in 2022 would do. She went to social media.

“I work at the H&M in the Oculus at World Trade and today a customer discovered lice on a rack of hoodies. They’re not closing the store nor are they notifying employees of the problem. The section was just blocked off,” the woman posted.

In response to the viral post, H&M eventually closed the store to investigate.

“We take customer and employee safety extremely seriously. Out of an abundance of caution we have closed the H&M store at Westfield World Trade Center in order to investigate fully,” the company said in a statement.
