TRENTON, NJ – New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy has announced he has asked the New Jersey legislature and assembly to extend his emergency COVID-19 powers. Murphy also announced that children in public schools will remain masked up for the foreseeable future, regardless of their vaccination status or natural immunity status.

Murphy said he must maintain a “war footing” to continue to combat the COVID-19 virus. The New Jersey legislature must vote on the Governor’s request which is expected to pass in the Democrat majority-controlled bodies.

“I formally notified leadership to extend our authority for 90 days,” Murphy said. “Particularly as it relates to schools and learning centers.”

Murphy also asked for extensions to existing executive orders to avoid them from expiration.

“We anticipate this means our kids will continue to wear masks in school to maintain in-person learning,” Murphy said.
