Austin police investigating double fatal crash

AUSTIN, TX – The Austin Police Department (APD) has identified Amira Owens and Cesar Ramirez-Hernandez as the deceased from the crash that occurred on January 11th.
 
On January 11, 2022, at about 10:30 a.m., officers with the Austin Police Department responded to a single vehicle crash in the 13100 block of N. Mopac Service Road southbound. The driver of the vehicle was traveling southbound when he left the roadway and struck a maintenance worker, Cesar Ramirez- Hernandez.  Ramirez- Hernandez was pronounced deceased at the scene.
 
The vehicle continued southbound striking a cement drainage ditch causing the vehicle to flip. The vehicle received extensive damage to the back driver’s side where the passenger, Amira Owens, was seated. Amira Owens was also pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

This is Austin’s 1st fatal traffic crash of 2022, resulting in 2 fatalities for the year. On the date of this crash in 2021, there were 3 fatal crashes resulting in 3 fatalities.
