Press Release

Toms River, N.J.- The New Jersey State Police have arrested William Sabo, 22, of Berkeley, N.J., for allegedly brandishing a handgun and shooting at another vehicle on the Garden State Parkway in Ocean County.

On January 12, troopers from the State Police Galloway Station, along with detectives from the Troop “D” Criminal Investigation Office, responded to the Community Medical Center in Toms River for the report of a shooting that occurred on the Garden State Parkway. When troopers arrived, they discovered that a male victim was allegedly struck by gunfire while traveling southbound on the Garden State Parkway in the area of exit 80.

During the investigation, detectives determined that the victim had an altercation with an occupant of a black Dodge Charger at a gas station in Manchester Township. After the altercation, the victim and suspect left the gas station in the same direction. A short time later, the victim entered the Garden State Parkway where the suspect fired a gun that struck the victim’s vehicle. The victim sustained a non-life-threatening injury to the knee and was driven to Community Medical Center by another occupant in the vehicle. The victim provided a description of the suspect, who fled the scene.

Through various investigative means, detectives along with members of the Manchester Township Police Department identified the suspect vehicle involved in the shooting, and determined that Sabo fired at the victim’s vehicle from the passenger side of the vehicle. On January 14, detectives from the Troop “D” Criminal Investigation Office along with members of the State Police K9 Unit, TEAMS Unit, Berkeley Township Police Department, and Ocean County Prosecutors Office executed a search warrant at Sabo’s residence in Berkeley Township and arrested him without incident.

As a result of the search of the residence and Sabo’s vehicle, a gray Kia Forte, detectives seized a .40 caliber handgun, a .32 caliber revolver, 2 high-capacity magazines, 2.5 ounces of marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.

William Sabo was charged with attempted homicide, unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of a weapon during a CDS offense, possession of a high-capacity magazine, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, and possession of CDS paraphernalia.
