Toms River Township announces new recycling schedule after confusion and mixups in 2021

TOMS RIVER, NJ – The Township of Toms River has announced a new recycling schedule for 2022 to remedy the confusing schedule of 2022.

“In an effort to improve service and reduce confusion amongst Township residents, the Department of Public Works will commence recycling pickups every other week this year,” said Art Gallagher, secretary to Mayor Mo Hill.

Previously, recycling was collected every 1st and 3rd week of the month or every 2nd and 4th week of the month, depending on collection areas within the Township. Recycling collections will take place on the same day of the week as under the previous schedule, but now there will be pickups every other week which will result in two additional collections in each area throughout the calendar year.

“This change, which was recommended in the efficiency study approved by the Mayor and Council in 2021, will result in an 8% increase in service without increasing costs to the property taxpayers,” Mayor Hill said in a press release. “The recent reorganization which consolidated Parks, Buildings and Grounds into the Department of Public Works, allows for the more efficient use of equipment and the cross training of DPW employees.”

“Hill is recommending that residents download the Recycle Coach app which is available for free in the Apple App store and Google Play for up to date notifications on recycling and trash pickups dates and for accurate information on materials to be recycled,” Gallagher added.

“As more residents use the Recycle Coach app for scheduling reminders and for tips on appropriate waste disposal, we hope to experience more efficiencies and savings,” said Hill.
