President Joe Biden repeated the false and debunked claim that he “traveled 17,000 miles” with Chinese President Xi Jinping, during his White House meeting with his Council of Advisors on Science & Technology on 1/20/2022.

The claim had been debunked in 2021 by the Washington Post.

Biden has traveled extensively through China during his visits, but not with the President and not 17,000 miles. The post determined the President traveled a total of less than 4,000 miles through China during his visits.

“Because the former president of China and President Obama seven years ago thought we should get to know one another, I traveled 17,000 miles through his country and our country over nine days,” Biden said at the time.

“The White House did not offer an explanation for how Biden calculated 17,000 miles. But clearly it’s a number he deems important enough to repeat often,” the Post reported
