Fort Lauderdale police investigating Wednesday afternoon murder

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – The Fort Lauderdale Police Department is investigating the homicide of an adult male that occurred at approximately 3:06 p.m. on Wednesday, January 19th.

The incident occurred at 2841 Northwest 20th Street in the City of Fort Lauderdale. Officers responded to the area after receiving a ShotSpotter Alert and several 911 calls reporting a shooting. Officers located an adult male on the side of the roadway who had been shot. Preliminary investigation has revealed the victim was riding his bicycle when he was shot by an unknown subject in a passing vehicle.

The victim was transported to Broward Health Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. He has been identified as William Jean Giles, B/M, DOB 11/14/1975, a resident of the City of Fort Lauderdale. The suspect vehicle is described as a black, four-door sedan. Anyone who witnessed the shooting is encouraged to contact Detective C. Fargnoli at 954-828-5539, Detective L.
