Marine Technician Brings Home Boatload of Lottery Cash in Bowie

BOWIE, MARYLAND – Playing Maryland Lottery games is a weekly occurrence for a marine technician from Bowie. Although he has won small prizes, the Lottery fan hadn’t enjoyed a five-figure win until he bought a quick-pick ticket for the Jan. 8 Bonus Match 5 drawing. He won the game’s $50,000 top prize!

The 63-year-old found his lucky $2 ticket at Shoppers #2383, which is located at 10501 Martin Luther King Jr. Highway in Bowie. The second game board on the ticket that he bought the day of the drawing matched the winning numbers of 5, 6, 10, 29 and 36. The Prince George’s County resident didn’t know this, however, because he didn’t check his ticket until he returned to the store a few weeks later.

Initially, he was confused by the ticket scanner’s message that instructed him to “See the lottery.” Once the grocery clerk explained what the message meant, the player’s excitement grew. “I was surprised, I’ve never won that much before,” the lucky player said.

The winner has only shared his great news with family members. A marine technician for 40 years, he plans to use his prize for his daughters’ college expenses.

Shoppers #2383 also benefits from his big win. For its role in selling a $50,000 top-prize winning Bonus Match 5 ticket, the Prince George’s County grocery will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery.
