Ocean Pines Retiree Lands $100K Scratch-off Prize at Casino

OCEAN PINES, MARYLAND – A Maryland Lottery scratch-off fan is still marveling over the fact that she won a $100,000 top prize on a $100,000 Lucky scratch-off she purchased during a quick visit to Ocean Downs Casino.

“Who goes to a casino to get scratch-offs and wins a big prize?” she said, laughing.

The Ocean Pines resident, who has visited the casino to play its games in the past, decided one day to hop in her car and stop by just to buy a scratch-off or two. The $100,000 winning instant ticket was a delightful surprise.

Playing scratch-offs is just one of the ways the retiree has passed time during the COVID-19 pandemic. She occasionally goes for a drive and stops to buy Lottery games before finding a bench with an ocean view, where she can play her instant tickets and enjoy Atlantic breezes.

The 65-year-old retired to Maryland from New England and has been winning with the Lottery ever since.

“I’ve been here for five years and I’ve won $111,000 from the Lottery,” said the Eastern Shore resident. Her big prizes include $1,000 and $10,000 won on two scratch-offs in recent years.

Before setting off to make her scratch-off purchases, the avid player researches the remaining prizes by viewing the Lottery’s website. She also reads stories on the site to learn about area winners and lucky stores on the Eastern Shore. She has several retailers she favors.

Her plans for her prize include helping family members financially, making home improvements and enjoying “a little travel,” the winner said.

Her lucky Lottery retailer, Ocean Downs Casino, can also celebrate. The business located at 10218 Racetrack Road in Berlin receives a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling a top-prize winning scratch-off worth $100,000 or more.

The $30 $100,000 Lucky game is still packed with big prizes. Players can search for 53 unclaimed $100,000 top prizes, 33 $5,000 prizes and more than a million others ranging from $30 to $500.
