TSA officers seize gun in passenger backpack at Pittsburgh International

PITTSBURGH, PA – On January 22, 2022 at 5:52am, TSA officers observed a loaded 9mm handgun within a passenger’s backpack at the main security checkpoint of Pittsburgh International Airport and alerted Allegheny County Police of their finding.

County Police were able to determine that the 23 year-old, male passenger did possess a valid West Virginia concealed carry permit. The Federal Bureau of Investigation was notified. At this time, charges are not expected to be filed by County Police.

The firearm is in the possession of County Police.

Passengers who bring firearms into an airport checkpoint can face federal civil fines from the Transportation Security Administration up to $10,000. Repeat offenders can be fined up to $13,910.
