Texas deputy struck and killed by a drunk driver while providing a motorcycle escort

HARRIS COUNTY, TX – A Harris County deputy was struck and killed while riding his motorcycle by a drunk driver. Early this morning Harris County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Ramon Gutierrez was struck and killed by a suspected intoxicated driver. Sergeant Gutierrez was a 20 year veteran with the Department.

Sgt. Gutierrez was escorting a heavy load on a service road when the driver, a woman, passed the vehicle, striking Gutierrez. He was flown to a hospital in critical condition where he later passed. This is the third Texas law enforcement officer killed in as many days.

“It is with heavy hearts we mourn the loss of @HCSOTexas Sgt. Ramon Gutierrez (45). A veteran of 20 years, has served in our Vehicular Crimes Division for the last 13 years. Our thoughts & prayers go out to his wife, three children, his extended family, colleagues & friends,” said Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.
