Woman charged for October murder in Baltimore

BALTIMORE, MD – A woman is in custody and facing charges for an October 4th murder she is accused of committing.

On October 4, 2021, at approximately 2:57 p.m., a Central District officer heard a noise while on patrol, at which time concerned citizens began directing the officer to the 200 block of North Eutaw Street. The officer observed 33-year-old Whitney Purnell laying on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso.

Medics were summoned and transported the victim to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. The victim succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead 10 days later, on October 14, 2021.


Homicide investigators were able to identify a suspect and obtain an arrest warrant. Investigators learned that the suspect assaulted the victim and the women were engaged in a physical altercation at the time of the shooting.

On December 23, 2021, 24-year-old Jasmine Jones was arrested and charged with Involuntary Manslaughter and First Degree Assault. Jones is currently awaiting trial.
