Pittsburgh teen charged for armed carjacking in Mt. Oliver

PITTSBURGH, PA – At 11:40 p.m. on February 10, 2022, officers of the Mt. Oliver Police Department responded to the 200 block of Rustic Avenue for a report of an armed robbery of a motor vehicle. First responders found an uninjured 30-year-old male victim at the scene. The victim reported that his vehicle, a gray Mazda 6 sedan, was stolen by a group of four young males after one of the males ordered him out of the vehicle at gunpoint.

Mt. Oliver Police Department requested the assistance of the county police, and detectives with the General Investigations Unit responded to initiate an investigation. Descriptions of the vehicle and the suspects were shared with surrounding police departments.

At approximately 4:31 a.m. on February 11, 2022 detectives were notified that the stolen vehicle had been involved in a crash in the 2400 block of Perrysville Avenue in Pittsburgh’s North Side. Following the crash, multiple juveniles arrived at area hospitals with varying injuries from the crash.


Through their investigation, detectives learned that 18-year-old Tyler Hutchinson of Pittsburgh’s Corliss neighborhood was the person responsible for the robbery. Hutchinson conspired to steal the victim’s vehicle along with three other males. Detectives identified two of those males as juvenile residents of Pittsburgh’s North Side.

Detectives obtained a warrant for Hutchinson’s arrest charging him with robbery of a motor vehicle, theft, receiving stolen property, corruption of minors, recklessly endangering another person, and criminal conspiracy. Hutchinson was arrested by county police detectives on February 11, 2022 at 10:06 p.m. in Pittsburgh’s Sheraden neighborhood.
