HOLLYWOOD, FL – On Friday, February 11th, the Hollywood Street Crimes Unit was alerted to an LPR (License Plate Reader) notification of a felony vehicle in the area of N 22 Ave and Raleigh St. The vehicle, a red 2018 Honda Civic, had been stolen in an armed carjacking in the city of Sunrise, FL, approximately an hour prior to the alert.

Detectives responded to the area and located the vehicle parked at a business. Detectives maintained surveillance and observed three subjects enter the vehicle. The vehicle began driving eastbound into Dania Beach, FL. Detectives continued surveilling the vehicle, and observed it to drop off two female occupants at an address in Dania Beach. The vehicle continued driving at which point Detectives along with K9 Officer Ownbey conducted a felony stop of the vehicle. The suspect fled a short distance from the Detectives with the vehicle coming to a rest at Phippen Waiters and SW 7th St. The driver, identified as Jahsiah Christian, fled from the vehicle on foot running northbound through the residences. He was taken into custody shortly after without further incident.

Detectives located a Walther P22 semi auto pistol in Mr. Christian’s pants pockets, and was in possession of the armed carjacking’s victims ID and credit cards. Mr. Christian had active warrants for burglary of an occupied residence and burglary of an unoccupied residence, and was currently on probation for burglary of an occupied dwelling.

Mr. Christian was further listed as a violent Felony Offender of special concern. Contact was made with Sunrise Police Detectives, who responded with the victim. The victim positively identified Mr. Christian as the suspect of the carjacking. Detectives responded to the address where the two female occupants were dropped off, and made contact with them. Subsequent investigation revealed they had no involvement in the armed carjacking. Sunrise Detectives advised that they would complete an additional arrest affidavit to charge Mr. Christian with armed carjacking. The vehicle was released to the victim on scene. Mr. Christian was taken to jail.
