Powerball Mother-Daughter Team Win $50K

BALTIMORE, MARYLAND – A mother and daughter from Baltimore are basking in the glow of a $50,000 Powerball win. A last-minute ticket purchase saved them from missing out on winning the third-tier prize in the Feb. 12 drawing.

The duo play Lottery games weekly. The daughter, who lives with and takes care of her 81-year-old mom, normally gets the numbers from her mother and plays them. On Saturday, Feb. 12, however, the daughter was shopping in Washington, D.C. when she remembered she still needed to buy a ticket for the drawing. She rushed back to Maryland and purchased quick-pick tickets just in time at Cash Depot #35 located at 8 16th Avenue in Brooklyn in Anne Arundel County. Once home, she gave her mother the tickets.

“My mother watched the drawing while I was downstairs,” said the daughter. “She called me upstairs and showed me this paper where she had written down some numbers and said, “I think we hit!’ ”

The daughter didn’t believe her mother and went back downstairs and checked the numbers herself. To her surprise, the $2 ticket was a winner.

“I ran back upstairs yelling, ‘You were right, we did hit,’” said the 51-year-old daughter. The mother then locked the $50,000 winning ticket in the safe while the daughter reached out to the Lottery to see how to claim their small fortune. Because of her job as a medical technician, the daughter had to find an appointment that worked with her schedule. They claimed the prize this week.

The lucky duo hope to purchase a new house with their Lottery winnings.

Want to try to win a big Powerball prize, too? The Powerball jackpot for Saturday, Feb. 19 is currently an estimated $31 million with a cash option of $20.7 million.
