No suspects yet after 20-year-old shot in Sarasota

SARASOTA, FL – The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to conduct an investigation following a shooting that occurred Monday evening in Sarasota.

Just after 7:30 p.m., deputies were called to the 3400 block of Coronado Drive regarding an individual lying in the road with a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to the hospital with serious injuries and is currently in intensive care.

Witnesses reported hearing a single “pop” described as fireworks. No one was immediately taken into custody. The investigation is very active and ongoing. Detectives are asking anyone with information to contact the agency’s Criminal Investigations Section at 941.861.4900.

The family of the victim, in this case, has opted into privacy rights afforded by Marsy’s Law. For that reason, we will not be releasing the victim’s information however, we can share that he is a 20-year-old male.
