Washington County Woman Claims $100,000 top prize playing Monopoly Scratch-Off

WASHINGTON COUNTY, MARYLAND – A 33-year-old Washington County player is $100,000 richer today after finding a top prize hiding under the number 26 on a MONOPOLY™ X50 scratch-off.

She initially mistook her win for $1,000 last Friday but soon cleared up her confusion. The lucky player from the small town of Keedysville enjoys playing scratch-off games, especially the MONOPOLY™ X50 instant ticket, because she has won smaller amounts on the $10 game in the past.

On this special day, the scratch-off fan was thirsty and stopped at Battleview Market in Sharpsburg to buy a cool drink. While there, she purchased two MONOPOLY™ X50 games. The first instant ticket was not a winner. When she scratched the second instant ticket and matched the number 26 on the first row, she knew she won something.

“When I started to scratch the prize amount, I saw the one and some zeroes, so I thought it was $1,000,” she said. The operations manager handed the scratch-off to the cashier to check.

“The cashier said, ‘I need to show this in the back,’ ” said the lucky player. “When she came back out, she told me I won $100,000! It was unreal.”

The married mother with a combined family of six scanned the instant ticket one last time and then left the store to call her husband. “When she told me it was $100,000, I just couldn’t believe it was real,” said her husband. He accompanied the winner to Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to claim the prize, which they plan to put into savings.

Battleview Market, located at 5331 Sharpsburg Pike in Sharpsburg, is celebrating this win, too. The Washington County retailer receives a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling a $100,000 top-prize winning scratch-off.

The MONOPOLY X50 scratch-off game, which still has seven $100,000 top prizes remaining, went on sale Jan. 17, 2022, as part of the MONOPOLY Second-Chance Promotion from the Maryland Lottery. The following scratch-offs joined the $10 ticket: $1 MONOPOLY X5, $2 MONOPOLY X10 and $5 MONOPOLY X20. In addition, two FAST PLAY games were introduced: $3 MONOPOLY Game Tokens and $20 MONOPOLY Properties.

Players can enter any non-winning MONOPOLY™ scratch-off and winning or non-winning FAST PLAY MONOPOLY™ tickets into My Lottery Rewards for a chance to win cash prizes. Six drawings will take place, with each drawing awarding one Rolling Cash Jackpot and ten $2,500 prizes. A Rolling Cash Jackpot is a prize that starts at $2,500 at the beginning of each promotion period, and grows until the drawing date. Additional information is available at mdlottery.com/monopoly.
