Escaped Sex Offender Arrested by U.S. Marshals and Burlington Police Department

Burlington, VT – The U.S. Marshals and Burlington
Police Department arrested a non-compliant sex offender who recently
escaped police custody.

Scott Kastner (38) was wanted by Vermont Department of Corrections for
violating his conditions of release with an underlying offense of
Aggravated Domestic Assault in the 1st Degree. Kastner also had active
arrest warrants from BPD for Aggravated Domestic Assault in the 2nd
Degree, and Colchester PD for failure to comply with the sex offender
registry.

On August 24, 2021, Milton Police Department stopped a vehicle for a
traffic violation on Route 7 in Milton. Kastner was identified during
the stop and resisted arrest. Kastner later escaped police custody while
at UVM Medical Center. His whereabouts became unknown.


On August 27, 2021, Vermont Department of Corrections requested the
assistance of the U.S. Marshals in located and apprehending Kastner.

Kastner was arrested in Burlington on September 1st by members of the
U.S. Marshals and Burlington Police Department.

Kastner’s
criminal history includes rape, assault and battery with a dangerous
weapon, and aggravated domestic assault.
