Joint U.S. Marshals and Baltimore Police-led ‘Operation Washout’Targets Violent Criminals, Gangs, Firearms

Baltimore, MD
– A large-scale multi-agency law enforcement
operation led by the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force and the
Baltimore Police Department’s Warrant Apprehension Task Force focused on
wanted violent offenders and gang members, has concluded.

The
two-week operation, which took place in July resulted in dozens of
arrests and firearms seized throughout the Baltimore area. A total of 93
fugitives were arrested, including four suspects wanted for homicide, 11
wanted for attempted homicide, 26 wanted for domestic violence, three
wanted for rape and four wanted in relation to firearms offenses.
Sixteen documented gang members and known gang associates were among
those arrested, and nine firearms were seized during the operation.
Overall, 110 warrants created by the Baltimore Police Department were
served.

Operation Washout (OWO) is a United States Marshals
Service-led collaborative initiative that partners federal, state, and
local law enforcement to focus on specific areas impacted by
gang-related violence, while targeting the most violent offenders and
organizations. The overall goal of OWO is to foster safer communities by
providing immediate relief from gang-related violence by investigating
and arresting fugitive gang members and the criminal organizations
responsible for committing violent crimes.


“Arresting these most
violent fugitives has enhanced safety for the citizens of Baltimore and
the surrounding areas,” said U.S. Marshal for the District of Maryland
Johnny Hughes. “The United States Marshals Service stands committed to
working with our allied law enforcement partners in combating violent
crime.”

“Our collaboration with the U.S. Marshals Capital Area
Regional Fugitive Task Force and participation in joint operations like
Operation Washout reflect our ongoing partnership and commitment to
apprehending some of the most violent offenders and taking them off the
streets,” said Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison. “This
operation demonstrated our ongoing efforts in working with all of our
law enforcement partners at the federal, state and local level in
creating a safer Baltimore.”

The Capital Area Regional Fugitive
Task Force is a congressionally supported multi-agency task force whose
mission is to focus resources and efforts on the reduction of violence
within the National Capital Region through the identification,
investigation, and apprehension of fugitives wanted for egregious crimes
against the community, while ensuring the application of equal Justice,
Integrity, and Service for all.

Marshals Service; Baltimore City Police Department; Baltimore County
Police Department; Maryland State Police; the Department of Homeland
Security Investigations; FBI; Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and
Explosives, Howard County Police; Maryland Transportation Authority
Police; Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services;
and Annapolis Police Department.
