Miami-Dade Police Receive 100 Teddy Bears for Abused, Neglected Children

MIAMI-DADE, FL – Nothing says community policing like a cop with a teddy bear in hand for a child who has been abused, neglected, or witness to a crime or unpleasant situation. Now, the Miami-Dade Police Department has an arsenal of cuddles and kindness for children in need.

That’s thanks to a generous donation by “Little Bear Big Heart”, a non-profit charity.

This year, Little Bear Big Heart welcomed its first commercial donor after receiving a very generous gift from University Credit Union

“The beginning of 2022 started with a great big “Thank you!” to Mr. Michael J. Welch, Sr., President and CEO of the University Credit Union for his support and generous donation LBBH. We are honored to have them as LBBH’s first private sector sponsor and look forward to delivering teddy bears 🧸 to the most vulnerable, children in need,” said Addy Villanueva, president and CEO of Little Bear Big Heart.

“On Monday, 100 teddy bears were donated to our officers on behalf of the “Little Bear Big Heart” not-for-profit charity,” the Miami-Dade Police Department said of the donation. “This charity supplies officers with bears to give to children who have been abused, neglected, abandoned traumatized and/or trafficked. The program is dedicated to the Founder, Michele Gillen.”

The organization also provides teddy bears to firefighters and court rooms where family matters are heard, the organization said.
