Cedar Rapids, IA
– U.S. Marshals arrested in Zwingle today an
Illinois man who was wanted on federal charges out of Springfield,
Missouri.

Untavious Davenport, 39, has been wanted by the
U.S. Marshals on charges of Conspiracy to Distribute Heroin and Fentanyl
since June of 2020. Davenport was indicted by a grand jury in the
Western District of Missouri on June 23, 2020.

On June 30, 2020, the Drug Enforcement
Administration requested the assistance of U.S. Marshals in the fugitive
investigation, and the U.S. Marshals Midwest Violent Fugitive Task Force
in Springfield, Missouri, adopted the case and began the hunt for
Davenport.

U.S. Marshals quickly developed information
indicating Davenport had fled the area and tracked Davenport to the
greater Chicago area. At that time Marshals with the Chicago Strike
Force, a multi-agency organization under the Organized Crime Drug
Enforcment Task Forces (OCDETF), conducted a local investigation into
the potential whearabouts of Davenport. Over the next several months,
Marshals tracked Davenport through numerous states. In mid June 2021,
Marshals believed Davenport had traveled into eastern Iowa, in an
attempt to evade detection. Members of the Northern Iowa Fugitive Task
Force, working with the Dubuque Drug Task Force, developed a likely
location for Davenport in a rural setting just north of Zwingle.

After days of surveillance, Marshals identified
Davenport outside of a farmhouse. Shortly after 4 p.m., June 23,
Marshals from Iowa, Illinois, and Missouri, assisted by the Dubuque
County Sheriff’s Office and the Dubuque Drug Task Force, took Davenport
into custody without incident. Davenport was transported to the Linn
County Correctional Center in Cedar Rapids, where he awaits extradition
to the Western District Missouri.

The U.S. Marshals Service is the federal
government’s primary agency for fugitive investigations. Nationwide, 60
local task forces are dedicated to violent crime reduction by locating
and apprehending wanted criminals. These task forces also serve as the
central point for agencies to share information on fugitive matters. The
Northern Iowa Fugitive Task Force comprises officers from the U.S.
Marshals Service, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Linn
County Sheriff’s office, Cedar Rapids Police Department, Waterloo Police
Department, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, and the Iowa
Department of Corrections.
