Police find, ticket driver caught on camera illegally passing school bus in Waretown

WARETOWN, NJ – The Ocean Township Police Department today reported they had identified the vehicle and driver caught on camera illegally passing a school bus earlier this week. The department said the driver was issued tickets but did not say which violations were cited nor was the driver’s name publicly released.

“Patrol Officers and Detectives located a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle pictured below this morning in the Barnegat Beach section of Ocean Township,” the department said in a brief statement. “Upon further investigation, it was determined that it was, in fact, the same vehicle and as a result, motor vehicle summons were issued.”

On Friday, the driver was caught on camera at 8:30 in the morning passing a school bus on the right-hand shoulder while a student and an adult were crossing the road on Barnegat Beach Drive. Officers asked for community assistance and spread the photo on social media in an attempt to identify the subject as the school bus camera did not get a good read on the license plate.

The vehicle we believe is a Subaru Forrester with a “ReClam the Bay – RCTB” sticker affixed to it.

“The safety of our residents and children is of utmost importance to the police department,” the department said.
