Concord,
NH – Once again, with the assistance of the public’s tips, the
U.S. Marshals – New Hampshire Joint Fugitive Task Force was able to
track down and arrest another fugitive. “Fugitive of the Week,” Brandon
Lee Lanum, was arrested around noon today hiding inside the attic of a
residence located on Wiswall Road in Durham, New Hampshire.
Brandon Lee Lanum, 37 years-of-age, was last known to reside in
Manchester, NH had been featured as the “Fugitive of the Week” on April
21, 2021. In 2012, Lanum had been convicted and sentenced on a charge of
bank robbery. This sentence included prison time followed by a period of
supervised release. The U.S. Marshals became involved in this
investigation after a federal arrest warrant was issued indicating that
Mr. Lanum was in violation of the conditions of his supervised release.
The “Fugitive of the Week” was aired on WTPL-FM, WNTK-FM, WTSN-FM,
WEMJ-FM, The Union Leader, The Nashua Telegraph, The Patch, Foster’s
Daily Democrat, Manchester Information, the Manchester Ink Link, the
Rochester Voice and prominently featured on the internet. The “Fugitive
of the Week” continues to be a very successful tool that has resulted in
the location and arrest of over 500 fugitives since its implementation
in 2007. Additionally, the “Fugitive of the Week” was distributed
statewide to all law enforcement officers in New Hampshire.
After
being featured as the “Fugitive of the Week,” several tips were received
pointing investigators to a residence on Wiswall Road in Durham, NH.
Based on this information and some follow-up investigation, members of
the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force, along with members of the Durham
Police Department went to this residence to locate Lanum. People were
heard inside the residence, but they did not come to the door, so entry
was forced. Once inside the residence, Mr. Lanum was located inside the
attic crawl space and was arrested without further incident. A female
resident of the same address, Elizabeth Mudgett, 37 years-of-age, was
also arrested on an outstanding arrest warrant for theft issued by the
Stratham Police Department.
Mr. Lanum was transported to the
Strafford County Jail in Dover, NH for processing and holding pending
his initial court appearance in US District Court in Concord, NH. Ms.
Mudgett was brought to the Durham Police Department for processing and
was later released on bail with a future court date.
This
investigation and arrests were made by several member agencies that make
up the U.S. Marshals – NH Joint Fugitive Task Force, including; Belknap,
Rockingham and Strafford County Sheriff’s Offices, the Durham &
Greenfield Police Departments, Federal Protective Service along with
deputy U.S. Marshals.
Since the inception of the U.S. Marshals –
New Hampshire Joint Fugitive Task Force in 2002, these partnerships have
resulted in over 8,218 arrests (Updated as of 12/16/2020). These arrests
have ranged in seriousness from murder, assault, unregistered sex
offenders, probation and parole violations and numerous other serious
offenses. Nationally the United States Marshals Service fugitive
programs are carried out with local law enforcement in 94 district
offices, 85 local fugitive task forces, 8 regional task forces, as well
as a growing network of offices in foreign countries.
