U.S. Marshals Arrest International Fugitive Wanted for Sex Crimes Against a Child

Dayton, OH
– U.S. Marshal Pete Tobin is pleased to announce
that a combined effort during the morning hours of March 3, 2021
resulted in the arrest of Andrew Gonnella. Gonnella was wanted by the
United States Marshals Service for being a fugitive from Sweden;
wherein, he faces charges for gross rape of a child and gross sexual
assault of a child in violation of the Swedish Criminal Code. All
charges allegedly involved a minor child and occurred during Gonnella’s
international travel to Sweden. Gonnella was located and arrested in the
4000 block of East Main Street, Columbus, OH without incident. Gonnella
was subsequently transported to the federal courthouse in Columbus, OH
where he now awaits extradition to face his charges in Sweden. This
complex international fugitive investigation included the involvement of
the Swedish government, INTERPOL, the U.S. Marshal’s Southern Ohio
Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team (SOFAST), the Federal Bureau of
Investigation, and the Eaton Police Department.

U.S. Marshals SOFAST is a multi-jurisdictional
task force comprised of the Dayton Police Department, Springfield Police
Department, Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Clark County Sheriff’s
Office, Miami County Sheriff’s Office, Champaign County Sheriff’s
Office, Montgomery County Prosecutors Office, Ohio State Highway Patrol,
Perry Township Police Department, West Carrollton Police Department,
Springboro Police Department, the Ohio Adult Parole Authority, Xenia
Police Department, Warren County Sheriff’s Office, and the United States
Secret Service. The U.S. Marshals Service is the nation’s primary
fugitive hunting organization and captures more federal fugitives each
year than all other law enforcement agencies combined.
