U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force Arrests Berwick Attempted Murder Suspect

Williamsport, PA
– Today, U.S. Marshal Martin J. Pane announced
the arrest of Marlon Melendez-Reyes – a 41-year old Berwick man.

On May 23, 2021, the Berwick Police Department investigated an assault
with a machete. As a result of their investigation, officers obtained an
arrest warrant charging Melendez-Reyes with Criminal Attempt – Homicide,
Aggravated Assault, and lesser included offenses and asked the U.S.
Marshals Service (USMS) Fugitive Task Force to apprehend him.

Yesterday at about 2 p.m., members of the task force and Berwick police
officers checked a home in the 1400 block of Pine Street, Berwick.
Melendez-Reyes was found hiding inside and arrested without further
incident.


United States Marshal Martin J. Pane stated, “The
coordination and cooperation demonstrated by law enforcement in this
case led directly to a dangerous fugitive being taken off the streets.
It is our top priority to arrest violent crime fugitives, especially
those who have no regard for human life.”

The USMS Fugitive Task
Force in the Middle District of Pennsylvania is comprised of 20 state,
county and local police agencies, including: the Williamsport Bureau of
Police; the Lycoming County Sheriff’s Office; the Lycoming County Adult
Probation Office; the Berwick Police Department; the Union County
Sheriff’s Office; the Pennsylvania State Police; and, the Pennsylvania
Board of Probation and Parole – all of whom participated in this
investigation.
