PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, MD – A Washington D.C. 17-year-old has been arrested and charged in connection with the murder of 71-year-old Abdul Rauf Khan of Springfield, VA. Police today say the teen is being charged as an adult.

According to the Prince George’s Police Department, on February 26, at approximately 5:30 pm, patrol officers responded to the 3700 block of Dunlap Street for a welfare check.

“The victim was located outside in a roadway suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He died several hours later at a hospital,” the department said. “The preliminary investigation revealed Khan was operating as a rideshare driver at the time of the murder. His car was also stolen.”

On Tuesday, police officers conducted a traffic stop on the victim’s stolen vehicle at the intersection of Garrett A. Morgan Boulevard and Central Avenue in Landover.

“There were three occupants inside of the car at the time of the stop – two juveniles and one adult. They were all taken into custody,” the department added. “The 17-year-old male charged with Khan’s murder confessed to shooting the victim during a carjacking.”

According to a preliminary investigation by police, Khan picked up the 17-year-old as a fare in Washington DC.

He is charged with first-degree murder and carjacking. He’s in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.
