GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ – The Gloucester Police Department conducted a stakeout in an attempt to catch a copper thief that has been burglarizing work vehicles stored in a yard at the PSE&G Landing Road facility.

Over the past few weeks, a series of late-night burglaries involving the theft of copper wire took place in the secured yard. Police caught Thomas Duane Coady in the act of breaking into the yard to steal large spools of copper wire valued at $1,000 each.

“A white vehicle was observed at approximately 9:08 PM, identified as a possible suspect vehicle from previous incidents. Two males were observed forcing entry to the outside of the property and fled on foot into a wooded area after police contact,” the Gloucester Police Department said. “Police attempted to stop the vehicle which was parked on a dead-end street near the PSE&G business. The vehicle fled at a high rate of speed nearly striking a police unit head-on and continuing down the Old Black Horse Pike towards the Black Horse Pike where officers lost sight of the vehicle. The Gloucester Township Police Bloodhound K-9 and New Jersey State Police Aviate Bureau responded to assist.”
