SHARPSBURG, PA – The Allegheny County Police have announced an arrest after a nearly four-month-long investigation into a DWI crash that sent two people to the hospital back in December.

According to police records, “On December 14, 2021 at 3:48 p.m., Sharpsburg Police and paramedics responded to a two-vehicle collision in the 1600 block of Main Street. When first responders arrived, they found an 81-year-old female (driver of a 2009 Toyota Rav 4) and a 66-year-old male (driver of a 2015 GMC van) injured. Both individuals were transported to area hospitals.”

During that investigation, the Sharpsburg Police Department requested the investigative assistance of the county police homicide and collision reconstruction unit.

“Investigators determined that 66-year-old James Sundberg of Tarentum was operating the GMC Van and collided with the Toyota while he was intoxicated,” the ACPD said in a statement. “On February 23rd, 2022 detectives obtained a warrant for Sundberg’s arrest, charging him with aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance (DUI), DUI, and traffic offenses. Sundberg was arrested by the Allegheny County Sheriffs Fugitive Squad on March 17, 2022.”
