TOMS RIVER, NJ – Former Donald J. Trump ally Roger Stone is coming to Toms River to speak at the 30-year-old Toms River Regular Republican Club. The New York Times best-selling author has announced his support for Mike Crispi, a Trump-aligned Republican challenging establishment Congressman Chris Smith who has been running for office over a span of six decades.

Originally elected to office in 1980, Smith is facing perhaps one of his toughest primary election challenges after being singled out by Trump after he voted in favor of an element of Joe Biden’s Build Back Better agenda, the ‘bi-partisan’ infrastructure bill.

Now he’s being challenged by America First candidate Mike Crispi who has promised a “Trump-style” primary against Smith, answering the former President’s call to primary Smith in 2022.

Stone will be supporting the Regular Republican Team of Mike Crispi for Congress, Ashley Lamb for Commissioner, and Toms River pastor Sergio Fossa who fought alongside Toms River residents against Governor Phil Murphy’s school mask mandate.

The Toms River Regular Republican Club was the official club endorsed by the Ocean County Republican Organization, but after unsuccessful attempts to seize power in the club, a group led by Toms River Mayor Maurice Hill split from the club and along with Township Attorney Greg McGuckin and other establishment officials, formed a new club last year, which immediately was endorsed by the county’s anti-Trump chairman, Frank Holman.

In 2020, Trump defeated Joe Biden by a margin of 30% on election day, 64% to 34% in Ocean County.

Holman, since 2021, has seemingly cut support for Trump, Trump supporters, and Trump candidates, endorsing Smith for Congress last month. The youthful America First team of Crispi, Lamb, and Fossa will be running against party incumbents Chris Smith, 69; Virginia Haines, 75; Jack Kelly, 71; and Michael Mastronardy, 70.
