Newark Police Seeking Robbery Suspect Who Attacked Woman Inside Dollar General

NEWARK, NJ – The Newark Police Department is seeking to identify a suspect wanted for an assault and robbery inside the Dollar General store on Market Street on Monday.

According to Newark Public Safety Director Brian A. O’Hara, at approximately 1:20 p.m., police responded to Dollar General, at 131 Market Street, on a call of a robbery.

“A woman was shopping when a male snatched her purse, knocking the victim to the floor. The suspect fled the store, heading west on Market Street and South on Washington Street,” O’Hara said. “Detectives investigating this incident seek the public’s help in quickly identifying this suspect as part of their investigation. He is described as a 5’8” tall Black male, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, gray, white and red pants, and a purple skull cap.”
