Traffic Stop in Columbus Leads to Drugs, Gun

COLUMBUS, OH – Columbus police announced that on Monday, a motor vehicle stop of Douglas J. Smith, Jr. ended up with smith being arrested for possession of heroin, marijuana, cocaine and a gun. Police seized Smith’s vehicle and $9,839 in cash.

According to the Columbus Police Department, on Monday at 11:51 PM, officers were dispatched to South Hague Avenue and Fremont Street for a report of a white male waving a firearm around while inside a vehicle.

“Officers began to circulate the area for the suspect/vehicle. Officers located the suspect vehicle in the area and initiated a traffic stop. When officers approached the vehicle they observed a large 1-gallon zip lock bag of marijuana in plain view, where the driver was attempting to conceal it,” CPD said. “The driver was removed from the vehicle and patted down. The driver had a black bag around his torso which contained a pistol, several baggies of narcotics, 22 Naloxone strips, and a large amount of cash.”
